E441 is gelatine, made from animal skin and bones. It is not vegan or vegetarian.

Gummy sweets, marshmallows, desserts and some yoghurts. In our catalog about half of the products with gelatine are sweets.

Gelatine usually comes from pigs, cattle or fish. Plant-based alternatives include agar, pectin (E440) and carrageenan (E407).

In the EU gelatine is classed as a food ingredient rather than a numbered additive, but labels still use E441.

In Daat’s catalog we found E441 in 141 of 16,831 products (0.8%), mostly in chocolate and sweets and yoghurts and dairy desserts.
