E476 - Polyglycerol polyricinoleate
By the Daat team · Updated October 30, 2026
E476, PGPR, is an emulsifier made from castor oil, used almost only in chocolate.
It helps chocolate flow into moulds and lets makers use less cocoa butter. In our catalog about half of its uses are in chocolate and sweets; seeing it next to lecithin (E322) on a chocolate bar is exactly that job.
How common is it? 1.5% of the products we checked, 251 in all, led by chocolate and sweets and cakes, biscuits and pastries.
